Make
Noise
Turn your stereo or TV to your favorite station when you
leave. To a burglar the noise may give the apperance that
someone is home. Some clients also tell us they always
forward their home phone to their cell phone

Trim
the Hedges
Keep the hedges next to your house at a level no higher
than the window sill. Otherwise, would-be burglars will
have a place to hide.

Mark
Your Valuables
Permanently marked items make it easier for the police
to trace and return stolen items to you.Social security
numbers and drivers license numbers with the state abbreviation
work best.Keep a record of marked objects.

Have
Your Home Watched While You Are Away
Have a neighbor collect newspapers and mail. Consider
hiring someone to take care of your lawn, or a house sitter
for extended absences. Above all, let your neighbors know
when you will leave and when you will return.

Lock
Up
High security dead bolt door locks and sturdy window latches
help prevent break-ins.close and lock garage doors
This helps protect any valuables stored in your garage
while preventing access to your house from inside

Park
in the Driveway
To give the appearance someone is home, park another car
in your driveway or ask a neighbor to park there. This
also prevents burglars from backing a van into the drive
for easy loading.

Be
Careful With Spare Keys
If you leave a spare key somewhere outside, be creative.
Burglars look under flower pots, welcome mats and on window
ledges first.

Lighten
Up
Leave your outside lights on at night. If your neighborhood
is dimly lit, ask your municipal authorities to add street
lights to replace existing bulbs with those of higher
wattage. When you’re not at home, leave one or two
lamps on inside your house.

Put in
Peepholes
Peepholes with magnifying lenses let you see who is
at your door without opening it. Never leave notes on
your door, even if you are at home.

Check
Your Mail
When you are away you may want a neighbor to pick up your
paper and your mail. robbers often check the mail box,
3 or 4 papers in the yard may indicate the resident is
on vacation. Don't put your name on the mail box this
makes it harder for the robber to call 411 for your number,
they often call to see if you are home.

Report
Unusual Behavior
Get involved. Team up with your neighbors and, form a
crime watch program. Your local police can probably help
you get started.
