| Q. Is their a difference between
a business license and a locksmith license |
| A. Yes.
in addition to having a business license, ALL locksmiths in Tennessee
are required to be licensed by the department of commerce and
insurance as locksmiths. This license must be visible on their
person, while doing work, it also must be displayed on their company
vehicle. |
|
| Q. Is their a standard rate
locksmiths charge, I found prices vary a lot. |
| A.
Their is no real standard, the national average is $92.00 for
a service call and from $85.00 to $100.00 per hr for labor. While
we charge less than the national average, our price is in line
with other professional locksmiths in the Nashville area. Unfortunately
our industry is adorned with fly by night hacks, they do sloppy
work and charge accordingly. In our area we have a few that fall
into that category. Generally speaking if a person is charging
½ the price of the rest of the industry professionals,
there is a reason. You often get EXACTLY what you pay for. |
|
| Q. Is it less expensive to
re-key my exsisting locks than to buy new ones. |
| A.
For the most part it is less expensive to re-key your locks. Residential
locks generally last 10 years with normal use, the finish usually
lasts less. A basic kwikset lock is around $28.00, re-keying is
between $12.00 to $15.00 depending on the lock. A working key
is required to disassemble the lock. |
|
| Q. Do you recommend
a particular brand of safe. |
| A. We
carry Amsec safes as well as Gardall safes (from the hit TV show
it takes a thief) These are professional grade safes. Our safe
division, American Safe Sales has a house brand safe, that is
often sold as a DuraMax safe. When it comes to safes you ALWAYS
get what you pay for. If you had 30 guns at a thousand dollars
each, you would be a fool to put them in a $500.00 safe See

| Q. Do they make bump proof
locks? if so do you sell them |
| A. Yes
there are several bump proof locks on the market. We carry the
Medeco locks. They have always produced a high security lock at
an affordable price. You can't get these at your local hardware
store. The majority of the Locksmiths in the area don't have the
tools or knowledge to deal with medeco. See
